Eat Gluten Free On A Budget

!±8± Eat Gluten Free On A Budget

Can you eat Gluten Free on a budget? When I found out my young son had Celiac Disease it was a shock as to how much Gluten Free foods cost. Of course the first thing we did was go to a natural foods type store. These types of stores do serve a purpose but you do not have to do all of your shopping there.

Vegetables, fruits, and most dairy products are GF. Don't forget about natural meats (processed meats you need to do some research). But what about noodles, bread, pancakes, and muffins?

We discovered that at our local Cub Foods (listed under SUPERVALU stores) has a decent selection of Gluten Free foods. You can buy Mac and Cheese, cookies, Cheeseburger Mac (like Hamburger Helper), and GF noodles. They have a designated section of Gluten Free Foods. You are still going to pay more for these items but not the price you would pay at a specialty store.

My wife found some GF flour that she ordered online. It is not cheap, but you can make a lot of things with it which will save you money in the long run. Now you can make your muffins, cookies ect. My wife made some GF chocolate chip cookies and I could not tell the difference.

You can pay 6 dollars or more for a "Gluten Free" peanut butter or you can buy Skippy brand which is GF according to their website. Prego spaghetti sauce is also GF (listed on Cambell's website as such). Use on Gluten Free noodles and you have an inexpensive meal.

Most of the large food companies will list their GF products. Usually you have to use their search option. Some of the generics might be GF as well but they don't always seem to list it so you may have to do a little more homework.
